Freak A. Della Releases Thirsty Queer Track, FMFMB

Less than two years after her LP Go East, the poptronica/hip hop producer, Freak A. Della, returns with a hot single, FMFMB. She displays confidence in letting herself be vulnerable, seen, and dominated, simply because she likes it, while unapologetically embracing her queer female sexuality and desires.

In her previous releases, Freak A. Della explored her identity as a queer woman (Lady DJ EP) and as a Cambodian-American on her album Go East. On FMFMB, Freak A. Della ventures into uncharted intimacy, using the most personal instrument available to her – her voice.

Up until now, Freak A. Della’s vocals have only been heard in spoken word form, such as in ‘I’m A Drag Queen’ (“Don’t be hatin’ on my tits!”). Yet on her newest single, the classically trained musician and experienced producer has tried something completely new to her music practice – singing by herself.

The result feels as powerful as it feels vulnerable. In the verses, Freak A. Della flirts with her submissive side and playfully succumbs, with the tongue-in-cheek chorus. The production is sophisticated; the track is stripped down to mostly percussion, intensified by a seductive bassline, and kicks that feel like a nervous heartbeat before suggesting something naughty. The minimal hip hop beat, with Freak A. Della’s soft voice in the forefront, acts like a skintight dress that covers just enough.

FMFMB might be Freak A. Della's most courageous song yet. Wait until you hear what the title stands for!
